DIWALI is here, and everyone has
been busy cleaning their homes at a deeper level, decorating them, buying new
clothes / accessories, and not to forget food - a wide spread of the choicest
delicacies being prepared. Being a Festival of Lights, the focus is largely on
lighting up the place as well.
We are
so completely engaged in all these preparations that we seldom pause to ponder
over the real purpose / significance of Diwali. Shall we have a look at it
today?
Diwali
is celebrated on the darkest New Moon night of the
Hindu calendar. This festival of lights symbolizes the victory of light over
darkness, hope over despair, awareness over ignorance. While lighting the lamps
this year in our homes and outside, shall we go beyond our perceived
inadequacies to simply accept, embrace and appreciate our own selves, thereby
allowing our inner light to shine through.
While cleaning our homes so
thoroughly, can we also cleanse ourselves of our regrets, grudges, anger,
guilt, jealousy, frustration, pettiness, judgments, etc. that we may be
carrying?
This Diwali let us truly
liberate ourselves from our limiting beliefs, our self-imposed shackles, and
our own darkest corners, opening the pathway to life itself becoming a
celebration.
A very Happy, Happening,
Prosperous, and Fulfilling DIWALI
