LIFE BEYOND THE DRAMA

How obsessed are we
With our dramas of life
Seeming so real
Each one truly unique
But taking us away
From who we are

We identify with them
Thinking that’s our life
Unaware how their impacts
Psychological, psychosomatic
Some psychosocial too
Are getting deeply etched

We even tend to believe
Ours are the most
Challenging and crucial
Probably they are…
Yet it’s our narrative
Not the reality for sure

This compelling identification
With self-created stories
Has hijacked us already
Not even allowing a peek
Beyond our narratives
At our real self

Do we but realise
Whatever we identify
Ourselves with
Life simply starts
To function around that
Making it our reality

We aren’t limited edition
Script new narratives NOW
That are empowering
Fulfilling and transforming
Connecting each one to
The eternal I AM

DIWALI is here, and everyone has been busy cleaning their homes at a deeper level, decorating them, buying new clothes / accessories, and not to forget food - a wide spread of the choicest delicacies being prepared. Being a Festival of Lights, the focus is largely on lighting up the place as well.

We are so completely engaged in all these preparations that we seldom pause to ponder over the real purpose / significance of Diwali. Shall we have a look at it today?

Diwali is celebrated on the darkest New Moon night of the Hindu calendar. This festival of lights symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, hope over despair, awareness over ignorance. While lighting the lamps this year in our homes and outside, shall we go beyond our perceived inadequacies to simply accept, embrace and appreciate our own selves, thereby allowing our inner light to shine through.

While cleaning our homes so thoroughly, can we also cleanse ourselves of our regrets, grudges, anger, guilt, jealousy, frustration, pettiness, judgments, etc. that we may be carrying?

This Diwali let us truly liberate ourselves from our limiting beliefs, our self-imposed shackles, and our own darkest corners, opening the pathway to life itself becoming a celebration.

A very Happy, Happening, Prosperous, and Fulfilling DIWALI

SIGNIFICANCE OF DUSSEHRA

DASHA HARA is a Sanskrit word which means removal of following ten qualities within..
Ahankara (Ego)
Amanavta (Cruelty)
Anyaaya (Injustice)
Kama vasana (Lust)
Krodha (Anger)
Lobha (Greed)
Mada (Over Pride)
Matsara (Jealousy)
Moha (Attachment)
Swartha (Selfishness)
Hence, also known as "Vijaydashami" signifying "Vijaya” over these qualities.
As I read this message, I realised that these ten qualities exist inside all of us. But we often treat them like step children, as if they belong to others, but definitely don't belong to us. The more we disown them, the more they just spring up in our life.
Instead of thinking of their removal, can we learn to accept n embrace each one of them? As we do so, they become our friends and cease to have a hold on us.
This Vijayadashami, let us truly own them up instead of hating them, and learn to go beyond them....
Happy Celebrations

Why Life Coaching?

As Human Beings, we keep going through an ongoing stream of dilemmas in life. The paradox however is that the dilemmas are so widely diverse, and yet so universal, so large and sometimes so small, yet seemingly significant.

What should I wear today?
Can I trust this person?
Should I express my anger, or play safe?
Is this person really appreciating me, or being sarcastic?
Should I invest in these stocks, or not?
Can I take the plunge to quit this job and start my own dream project?
Do I want to take the responsibility of marriage and children?

The list seems endless……

How we wish there was some way to know the answers instantly, miraculously! Google has become our digital God, providing us in one click all the information we need. But alas, it only gives us more information, increasing our knowledge bank. Now the question is how much do we put this knowledge into action? How much of it do we assimilate? Some of us may well be connecting to our IQ and EQ, but what is our wisdom quotient.

While one is pondering over all this, someone tells us about Life Coaching. One of the first questions that pops up is, “Do I really need Life Coaching?”

Instead of depending on someone to answer that for you, you can simply have an enquiry within by asking yourself:

Am I truly satisfied with life, or am I being resigned to it?
Do I think life is treating me fair?
Do I love and respect myself?
Do I continually seek other’s approval / validation?
How is my Physical, Emotional and Financial health?
How fulfilling are my relationships – Professional and Personal?
Would I like to get another chance in some area of my life?
Do I know my unique abilities, hidden resources, and how to utilize them?

The answers to these will give you your own answer too. And if that answer happens to be ‘yes’, then it puts one on another survey trail, wanting to find out more about Life Coaching. Having gathered all the data, one is invariably back to square one, now facing the next series of dilemmas, which could be:

How do I choose a Life Coach?
What are some attributes I need to look for in a Life Coach?
Will this person really understand my issues?
What have been the experiences of their clients so far?
What should be the appropriate fees to pay?

And again the list goes on….

It indeed can span out to be an overwhelming decision. Some may decide to choose a Coach based on their accreditation. Other may do so on the basis of the fees, and yet others on the basis of referrals.

While the process goes on for finding out more about an appropriate Life Coach, how about simultaneously shifting focus to one’s own self by enquiring within:

What kind of results can I expect from this Life Coaching?
Which areas of my life can be addressed through this?
What would be my expected role in the entire journey?
How committed am I to contribute to my evolvement, while being facilitated by a Life Coach?

Read the testimonials to know other people’s experiences.
Check your own intent and commitment to yourself.

Life Coaching is a journey that you may choose to undertake, not with the purpose of fixing yourself but with the purpose of accepting and appreciating yourself, and going beyond yourself.

Bon Voyage!

GOD ….. DIVINITY..... HIGHER POWER

By and large we seem to be conditioned to look for grandness in others, and so we also look for grandness in Divinity / God / Higher power.

I certainly don't doubt the grandness of that Higher power whether we call it Divinity, God, Energy, or whatever else. But point here is we look for it outside. Haven’t we all heard that God resides within us? All ascended masters have been asking us to look within. I think conceptually we do understand it. Yet how many of us are willing to look at that God within? What stops us really?

One seeks answers from that God outside, in temples, churches, mosques, some religious / spiritual authority, or maybe an idol. Why do we not even pause to see that Divinity / God within us? Probably we don't even feel worthy of having that Divinity within ourselves.

I remember this little kid who was writing an essay on ‘Myself’. When I suggested that he could also write there, “I am a good boy”, hesitatingly he added that sentence to his essay, but knowing himself that he was a naughty kid, he had a lot of resistance in even writing it. On my pointing out his several good qualities, he still said, "But I am also very naughty." I then explained to him that being naughty was just one of his attributes, and it does not expunge all the other attributes of his. And one of his incredible attributes was that he was so truthful about himself.

Many of us are like that kid. We know our own perceived inadequacies and some closely guarded secrets, which we have somewhere inside us labelled wrong /inappropriate. We overlook the fact that we are human, and being human encompasses having the best attributes as well as the so-called worst. All that is needed is just being cognizant of those attributes within us, and knowing to utilize them judiciously and effectively, whenever required.

Having said that, let us also be aware that this non-acceptance of the Divinity within is happening subconsciously or unconsciously. We are not doing it consciously, nor in awareness. Shall we just browse over what could be some of the reasons for this, some implications of owning up God / Divinity within?

We are aware that once we accept and acknowledge the Divinity within us:

If and when things don't work out as planned, we have to take responsibility and ownership of it.
We cannot blame things outside on anyone / anything.
We cannot play victim.
We cannot look for sympathy votes.
We cannot get into drama.
We have to seek all answers from within.
We have to plan and take action to manifest our way forward.
We cannot feel inadequate, worthless or small.
We have to feel magnanimous.
We don't essentially have to be caught up in rituals.

Apparently this seems to be a tall order. So isn’t it sheer convenience to keep the Divinity outside only?

We may not have pondered over the fact that one does not need to be all of the above suddenly. It is a journey which starts with simply accepting and acknowledging the Divinity within. This does not stop us from being human. We can still be doing all the things we would like to, and fulfill all our desires, while being aware of our actions and their consequences.

The moment I observe myself playing a victim in life, I check myself and shift to being an active creator / co-creator. Obviously I fall / fail so often, but that is irrelevant. What matters is that every time I have the choice to get up and re-generate myself. One can never really fail, unless one gives up.

Whether we accept and acknowledge the Divinity within or not, it still exists within us by default. So anyway we are creating our own destiny knowingly or unknowingly. That being so, why not start creating consciously, with awareness? All one needs to do is honor the divinity with grace and humility, and choose to feel empowered.

Divinity / God is the energy, the infinite unbounded consciousness which is omnipresent, and its potential is way beyond our limited comprehension. It is the space of infinite possibilities, infinite creativity, infinite joy, bliss, fulfillment and peace. This amazing infinite space is waiting to be claimed by us within ourselves. The only thing required to be done is that God energy inside us is to be accepted, honored, trusted, and listened to... Doing that allows us to recalibrate ourselves to the new energy, thereby activating and encouraging cellular changes to occur.

The best part is that we do not need to wait for SOME DAY to actualize all this. It is simply there for our asking. It is for us to start making our choices consciously to steer our life towards the destiny chosen by us, co-created by us. And the only time to do that is NOW.

You and I are not the doers. Isn’t it true that the energy inside us does everything? The more we are in orientation with that energy, the more things simply start happening in our space, rather than we struggling to make them happen.

While doing so, it is by no means being suggested that you don't worship God outside, if you want to. However, while worshipping an idol, a belief, how about honoring gratitude, acknowledgment, forgiveness, apologies, love, self-care, acceptance, togetherness, oneness, and humanity itself.....

Having so far known it conceptually, now let us experience that we are an integral part of that Divinity. That means you and I are a part of the family of God. Then how can anyone be less or more, irrespective of our social / financial status, color, creed, nationality, gender, religion, abilities, attributes, certifications.

WE are the Universe.

Mythology narrates to us the miracles created by Gods, in every religion.

The intent of those stories is to let us humans become aware of what we are capable of doing and being, to empower us by awakening us to our unlimited possibilities. Most of us don't even pause to see miracles as a possibility or even a probability for ourselves. Instead we sit in awe of them, and continue to worship our own version/s of God, based on our inherited religion or acquired religion, our conditioning and our convenience.

Can we shake ourselves up and understand that God is not looking for glorification nor gratification?
We simply need to believe in ourselves, learn our lessons, take actions in our life and create our own miracles...

We truly need to bring in a paradigm shift in our narrative / interpretation of GOD..... DIVINITY..... HIGHER POWER....

SILENCE

Early morning sun
Rising graciously
Mystique of nature
Leaves me astounded

Feeling so expansive
Words escape me
Intoxicating quietude
Takes o’er me

Silence calls me
Embraces me
Engulfs me
  Liberates ME...

NORWAY I SALUTE YOU

Dostoyevsky said, “The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.”

I was amazed as well as impressed to learn that Norway is known to have one of the best prison systems in the world, and also a relatively low level of crime. Norway’s criminal justice system seems to be doing something extraordinary. Few citizens there go to prison, and those who do usually go only once. When criminals in Norway leave prison, they stay out for good because they are reformed.

Norway has one of the lowest Recidivism rates in the world at 20%. Recidivism is the chronic tendency towards repetition of criminal or anti-social patterns, often after the person has undergone intervention for a previous time.

Whoa ! Aren’t we all curious to know, “How does Norway accomplish this commendable feat?”

Here are some insights into what makes the Norway Prison System so successful:

One of their first key mantras is Rehabilitation v/s Punishment.
This country relies on a concept called “Restorative Justice”, which aims to rehabilitate the prisoners by repairing the harm caused by crime, rather than punishing them. They say that justice for society demands that people released from their prison should be less likely to cause further harm or distress to others, and be better equipped to live as law-abiding citizens.

Even law says, being sent to prison obviously does not mean putting a person in a terrible place to make them suffer. Why should the prison be a place of deprivation and penance? Norway believes that removing people's freedom is enough of a punishment.

They pay attention to the Human Being, and believe that if prisoners are ill-treated, or treated like animals when they are in prison, they are likely to go out and behave like animals.

They have a powerful phrase coined for their prison, “An arena of developing responsibility”

Their prison is considered a penal institution designed to heal rather than harm, and to generate hope instead of despair.

Every prisoner is given trust and responsibility. They are treated with respect, thereby they learn to respect others. Of course they are being watched and monitored all the time. But you don’t change people by using power.

A lot of commitment and work goes behind putting this system into action. Norway’s prison guards undergo two years of extensive training. They are effectively taught to treat the inmates humanely. They believe that if the officers are trained to be harsh, stern, and suspicious, it will ripple outwards in their lives, affecting their own self-image, their families, and even Norway as a whole. They are paying attention to the impact on the collective consciousness. They sure understand transformation.

The official job description for these prison officers and guards says: "They must motivate the inmates so that their sentence is as meaningful, enlightening and rehabilitating as possible." These guards interact with the prisoners frequently, having meals with them, and even playing sports with them.

The prison authorities say, “There is so much to learn about the people who come to prison. We need to understand how they became criminals, and then guide them to reform and transform.”

Every prisoner has to work. However in their free time, the security guards keep them interestingly and constructively occupied by organizing varied activities, and the inmates can pick any hobbies and vocational programs of their choice.

The prison even has a recording studio with a professional mixing board. The in-house music teachers display remarkable sensitivity by referring to the inmates as ‘pupils’, not ‘prisoners’

Basically their prisons are designed to ease the psychological pressures, mitigate conflict, while also minimizing interpersonal friction. Not just this, they even work with other government agencies to prepare each inmate for the outside world prior to their release, by securing a home, job, and access to a supportive social network for them.

Kudos to the Prison System in Norway.

They sure value and respect the Human Being, believing in giving them a chance gracefully with amazing tolerance and sensitivity.

As I completed writing this, I heard about the magnanimous gesture of Norway considering shifting border to gift its Nordic neighbor Finland a peak that would become its highest point. This would be their 100th birthday present.

Amazing lessons to be learnt here...
