HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY to all my fellow Indians…

What does this day mean to us?
What is its significance for us?
Is it just about flag hoisting, listening to the age-old patriotic songs being played and replayed, enjoying the holiday, and / or watching the Republic day parade in Delhi? That is what it seems to be for many of us, including me.

Well Republic Day honors the day when the Constitution of our country came into force. The Constitution of India lays down the framework defining fundamental Political principles, powers & duties of government institutions, and sets out fundamental rights as well as the duties of citizens of India.

My observation is that most of us are aware of our fundamental rights to a great extent. It is a different story whether we exert our rights or not. And if not, what stops us. We often hear people discussing their disappointment about several issues that they face. But how will those discussions help if we don’t speak about the issues on the appropriate platforms, to the authorities directly responsible?

Secondly how many of us are even aware of our duties as citizens of India? Just because these duties are not enforceable by law, we choose to simply live in oblivion. How do we feel if our children only expect all their needs and demands to be met, but don’t want to fulfil any duties assigned to them?

India is our country. We are a part of this large family.
This Republic Day, shall we all make ourselves aware of our duties too, and stand committed to take our country forward? Together WE CAN.

Wishing you all a happy Makar Sankranti / Lohri / Pongal / Bihu.

These are all names of a festival of New Beginnings, celebrated with zest and gaiety all over our multi-cultural country India in a variety of ways. It is a festival of fun. Farmers celebrate it as a mark of completing their harvesting.

However a lesser known fact is that according to Hindu Mythology Lord Surya visited his estranged son Lord Shani on this day. So it is also celebrated to honour the relationship between a father and son, despite their differences. We can expand this to honouring the relationship between parents and children because it is a universal phenomenon that almost everyone has issues with parents, be it big or small.

In life, we are often dealing with the perceived dysfunctionality of families and relationships.

So today let us bridge our relationships, and take them to an all new level. Agreed sometimes it may not be as easy as it sounds.

Our mission at
Fifth Element is to genuinely connect people and bring them together, which also includes connecting you with yourself. We have been doing that through our Life Coaching for Individuals, Couples, Families, and Organisations. Read testimonials @

In the Babemba tribe of South Africa, when a person acts irresponsibly or unjustly, he is placed in the center of the village, alone and unfettered. All work ceases, and every man, woman, and child in the village gathers in a large circle around the accused individual.

Then each person in the tribe speaks to the accused, one at a time, recalling the good things the person in the center of the circle has done in his lifetime.

Every incident, every experience that can be recalled with any detail and accuracy, is recounted. All his positive attributes, good deeds, strengths, and kindnesses are recited carefully and at length. No one is permitted to fabricate, exaggerate, or be facetious about his accomplishments or his personality. This tribal ceremony often lasts for several days, and does not cease until everyone is drained of every positive comment he can muster about the person in question.

At the end, the tribal circle is broken, a joyous celebration takes place, and the person is symbolically and literally welcomed back into the tribe.

This tribe remembers your beauty when you feel ugly; your wholeness when you are broken; your innocence when you feel guilty; and your purpose when you are confused.

We all can learn from this tribe….
